About this Role

Ambitious/experienced Senior Site Manager required to work alongside the Project Manager on a £35m new build Further Education College in Newport on the Isle of Wight. Ground works and piling are complete with the steel frame currently under construction. Works are progressing well with handover of the main building due in August next year, followed by the second phase demolition and landscaping works. Overall, the project is a 3‑year programme of work from demolition, 18 months new build, decant of students into the new building, plus second phase demolition and extensive landscaping; final completion will be in the summer of 2028.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all trades and construction activities.
  • Ensure safe and successful delivery of the construction on site.
  • Produce short‑term programming of works.
  • Enforce company health and safety standards and review method statements, risk assessments, site logistics and quality control.
  • Implement inspection and test plans, client liaison, coordination meetings and report on progress against programmes.
  • Resolve issues, perform snagging and handover.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High motivation and proactive attitude with excellent technical, organisational, man‑management and communication skills.
  • 5–10 years of experience within a top twenty main contractor or equivalent.
  • Background in construction management, engineering or trades and educated to degree level or similar NVQ level.
  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications.
  • Capable of planning ahead, identifying and resolving issues, working well within a team, seeing the big picture and adopting a “get it right first time” approach.
  • Located within a sensible commute of the project (within 30 minutes of the ferry terminals in Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington). A taxi service or pool car will be provided on the island.
  • Candidates must be able to prove their eligibility to work in the UK.
