Highly Specialised Clinical Psychologist

This is a new and exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to work with older people within the Trafford Memory Assessment Service, delivering neuropsychological assessment for adults with suspected dementia and related conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality neuropsychological assessment and communicate findings to multidisciplinary team, patients and families.
  • Maintain clinical records, statistical returns and audit documentation.
  • Participate in service audit, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to staff training, supervision and recruitment processes.
  • Engage with service users, carers and stakeholders to support person‑centred care.
  • Support policy development, compliance and governance, including safeguarding and data protection.
  • Provide learning and development opportunities for team and wider service.
  • Maintain professional HCPC registration and meet Trust mandatory ongoing requirements.

Band 7‑8a preceptorship may be considered for a suitably experienced candidate.

Qualifications

  • Good honours degree in psychology (eligible for graduate membership of the BPS).
  • Post‑graduate doctorate in clinical/counselling psychology or equivalent, accredited by the BPS.
  • Eligibility to register as a clinical/counselling psychologist with the HCPC.
  • Additional training in neuropsychology specific to older adults.

Experience

  • Specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment of clients with dementia.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Teaching, training or supervision of non‑psychologists.
  • Experience in multi‑cultural settings and research relevant to older adult services.

Skills and Abilities

  • Use of neuropsychological screening assessments and complex clinical formulation.
  • Effective oral and written communication, including the delivery of sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage waiting lists, and adapt to unpredictable schedules.
  • Autonomous and collaborative working, with experience of lone work and exposure to verbal aggression.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, including word processing, e‑mail and internet use.
  • Commitment to professional development and training of others.
