Job Summary

Social Work Assistant – a frontline role in Cardiff’s social work teams, designed for final‑year students and recent graduates, supporting children, young people and families across locality teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of children and families, developing outcome‑focused plans.
  • Implement restorative practice interventions in partnership with families and multi‑agency colleagues.
  • Write concise records and reports.
  • Participate in regular supervision and support groups.
  • Work across communities within the designated locality (St Mellons, Fairwater, Cardiff Bay).
  • Support the transition of newly qualified workers through training and mentorship.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Completion of final placement and imminent qualification in Social Work.
  • Full valid driving licence and access to a car.
  • Excellent assessment skills and ability to produce clear written records.
  • Strong communication, organisational and IT skills.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate across services.
  • Registration with Social Care Wales (required).
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check (required).
