Job Summary
Social Work Assistant – a frontline role in Cardiff’s social work teams, designed for final‑year students and recent graduates, supporting children, young people and families across locality teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments of children and families, developing outcome‑focused plans.
- Implement restorative practice interventions in partnership with families and multi‑agency colleagues.
- Write concise records and reports.
- Participate in regular supervision and support groups.
- Work across communities within the designated locality (St Mellons, Fairwater, Cardiff Bay).
- Support the transition of newly qualified workers through training and mentorship.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Completion of final placement and imminent qualification in Social Work.
- Full valid driving licence and access to a car.
- Excellent assessment skills and ability to produce clear written records.
- Strong communication, organisational and IT skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate across services.
- Registration with Social Care Wales (required).
- Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check (required).

- Monthly salary plus a market supplement of £5,000 per annum (reviewed annually).
