Overview

Role: Bench Joiner

Location: Leicester

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £17 plus per hr

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications to accurately manufacture bespoke furniture and joinery items.
  • Selecting, measuring, marking, cutting, shaping, and preparing materials using a variety of woodworking tools and machinery while minimising waste.
  • Manufacturing and assembling components using both traditional and modern joinery techniques to meet exact specifications.
  • Applying finishes, including laminates and protective coatings, to enhance the appearance and durability of completed products.
  • Conducting quality checks throughout the manufacturing process and making any necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure a high standard of workmanship.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment, and machinery in good working order and reporting any faults or maintenance requirements.
  • Following all health and safety procedures, including the use of PPE and safe operation of workshop machinery.
  • Keeping the workshop clean, organised, and safe to prevent accidents and maintain efficient working practices.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
  • Providing regular updates to management on project progress and reporting any potential issues with deadlines, materials, machinery, or stock levels.
  • Assisting with the training and development of apprentices and junior team members when required.
  • Supporting loading, transportation, and delivery preparation of finished products where necessary, ensuring items are protected during transit.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Bench Joiner, Cabinet Maker, Furniture Maker, or similar woodworking role.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manufacturing specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of woodworking materials, tools, machinery, and joinery techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and work to deadlines.
  • Forklift certification is desirable but not essential (where applicable).
  • Full UK driving licence is desirable due to occasional driving and delivery requirements.
