Yard Operative / Counterbalance Forklift Driver

Job description Job SummaryWe are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Yard Operative / Counterbalance Forklift Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe loading, unloading, handling, and storage of steel pipes and associated materials within the yard. This role requires experience operating a counterbalance forklift, adherence to health and safety procedures, and the ability to work efficiently in an outdoor industrial environment.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate a counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently to move steel pipes and materials around the yard.Load and unload delivery vehicles in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements.Inspect incoming and outgoing loads for accuracy, quality, and damage.Organise and store steel pipes and products in designated yard locations.Assist with stock control, inventory checks, and material identification.Ensure loads are secure and correctly positioned before transportation.Carry out daily pre-use forklift inspections and report any defects immediately.Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies.Assist with general yard duties as required.Work closely with drivers, warehouse staff, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.RequirementsValid Counterbalance Forklift Licence/Certification.Previous experience handling long or heavy loads, preferably steel pipes, structural steel, or similar products.Good understanding of safe loading and unloading procedures.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Strong awareness of health and safety practices.Good communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.Desirable SkillsExperience in a steel, construction, manufacturing, or builder’s merchant environment.Overhead crane experience.Physical RequirementsAbility to work in a physically demanding environment.Comfortable standing, walking, and operating machinery for extended periods.Ability to safely handle heavy materials in accordance with manual handling guidelines.Personal AttributesDependable and punctual.Safety-focused with strong attention to detail.Positive attitude and willingness to assist colleagues.Flexible approach to work and overtime when required….
