Job Overview
The Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) transports elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from medical appointments and between healthcare facilities, working nights (20:00–08:00) on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern (40.36 hrs per week). The role may involve two‑person crews or solo operation, requiring a full UK driving licence and a good degree of physical fitness.
Responsibilities
- Transport patients to and from appointments and healthcare facilities.
- Assist with the safe lifting, securing and transfer of patients to and from ambulances and various transport platforms.
- Provide empathetic, patient‑focused care and effective communication with patients, families and colleagues.
- Assist with the handling of ‘end‑of‑life’ service users and challenging behaviours or mental health illnesses.
- Ensure the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy.
- Hand over patients to appropriate staff upon arrival at treatment centres or to families at their homes.
Qualifications
- Committed to patient care and a calm, considerate driving style with no more than three penalty points on your licence.
- Natural flair for team working and collaboration.
- Physically fit for patient handling and moving.
- Pass an enhanced DBS check (company funded).
- Flexible to work shift variations and familiar with the local and surrounding area.
- Full UK driving licence and a good degree of physical fitness.
- Experience communicating in emotionally charged circumstances.
