Cover Supervisor with SEN Experience
Pay Rate: £100 – £130 per day (subject to experience and qualifications). This role is during school hours.

Hours: Part-time during school hours
The role is for a cover supervisor with experience in SEN to work in SEN settings across Bristol – both resource bases in mainstream schools and SEN schools. It involves supervising classes during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged in learning while maintaining a calm, structured, and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver learning activities to children and young people, differentiating, modifying and using specialist activities and approaches according to children or young people’s responses/needs.
- Supervise classes during the short‑term absence of teachers.
- Deliver pre‑set work, ensuring students stay on task and complete assigned activities.
- Provide targeted support for students with SEN, adapting approaches as needed.
- Support students with SEN to fulfil their academic potential.
- Keep records and evaluate identified students’ progress.
- Assist with the development and implementation of support plans.
- Prepare students beforehand for a task, e.g. pre‑teaching.
- Supervise practical tasks.
- Carry out structured classroom assessment/observation and provide feedback outcomes.
- Under the direction of appropriate professionals and after adequate training, assist in meeting particular scholars’ needs (e.g. physical development, speech/language development, and medical needs identified in an approved care plan agreed by parents).
Qualifications & attributes
- Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school or specialist setting.
- Be confident managing classroom behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
- Show patience, empathy, and a calm, consistent approach.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to follow lesson plans and work independently.
- Hold a degree.
- Relevant qualifications such as Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support, or SEND training are desirable.
