About Us

We build machines that move matter using sound waves.

AcoustoFab is pioneering the next generation of contactless automation through acoustic levitation technology. Our systems use programmable ultrasonic fields to manipulate delicate materials without physical contact, enabling new approaches to precision handling, inspection, sorting, and manufacturing.

Our technology is already deployed globally through our Alchema Research platform, supporting customers in life sciences and advanced research environments. We are now expanding our scope to include a programme focused on scaling and commercialising contactless pick–inspect–place robotics for agricultural, pharma, and advanced manufacturing applications.

As an early-stage deep tech company, we combine acoustics, robotics, software, machine vision, and product engineering to create entirely new classes of automation systems.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Computational Scientist to develop the mathematical models, optimisation algorithms, and scientific software that underpin AcoustoFab’s next generation of acoustic manipulation technologies.

Working at the intersection of physics, mathematics, and software engineering, you will develop numerical models that simulate acoustic field generation and particle behaviour, create optimisation and control algorithms, and build high-performance scientific software that enables new product capabilities. You will work closely with Product Development, Software Engineering, and R&D teams to translate theoretical advances into robust commercial systems.

This role combines computational modelling, algorithm development, software engineering, and experimental validation. You will contribute across the full development lifecycle, from developing new mathematical models and solver technologies through to validating them experimentally and integrating them into commercial products.

The role is approximately 40% computational modelling and algorithm development, 40% scientific software development and integration, and 20% experimental validation and research.

This is an excellent opportunity for a computational scientist or physicist who enjoys solving challenging multidisciplinary problems, developing novel algorithms, and helping translate cutting-edge research into real-world industrial technology.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

·        MSc or PhD in Physics, Computational Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.

·        Strong understanding of computational physics, applied mathematics, and numerical methods.

·        Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering or research teams.

·        Comfortable working across theory, simulation, software development, and experimental validation.

Nice to Have

·        Experience with acoustic, electromagnetic, or other wave-based physical systems.

·        Experience with finite element, finite difference, boundary element, spectral, or other advanced numerical methods.

·        Experience developing real-time algorithms for engineering applications.

·        Familiarity with optimisation methods, inverse problems, control systems, or signal processing.

·        Experience using high-performance computing techniques.

·        Experience with scientific visualisation and data analysis tools.

·        Experience contributing to patents, publications, or novel technology development.

·        Experience working within advanced engineering or research and development environments.

Mindset

We’re looking for someone who is:

·        Curious, analytical, and excited by solving challenging scientific and engineering problems.

·        Comfortable working on open-ended research questions while delivering practical engineering solutions.

·        Able to move confidently between mathematical theory, computational modelling, software development, and experimental validation.

·        Motivated by developing innovative technologies that bridge research and commercial deployment.

·        Able to take ownership of complex technical challenges while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

·        Committed to scientific rigour, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality technical work.

What We Offer

·        Hybrid working with access to our central London laboratory and development facilities.

·        The opportunity to work on cutting-edge acoustic manipulation and automation technologies.

·        A collaborative multidisciplinary environment spanning physics, robotics, software, electronics, and product development.

·        Direct involvement in developing the computational technologies that underpin next-generation industrial automation platforms.

·        Opportunities to contribute to patents, publications, algorithms, and commercial products.

·        Significant experience across the full technology development lifecycle, from mathematical modelling through experimental validation and product integration.

·        Clear progression opportunities as the company grows, with scope to lead increasingly complex modelling, algorithm development, and technology programmes.
