Job Description:

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (BS & ASCP OR HEW CERT.)

This role involves performing laboratory tests, quality control procedures, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests and quality‑control procedures in assigned areas. Increase technical responsibility in areas of specialization.
  • Report abnormal results to physicians and floor staff.
  • Organize and assign work to technicians within the department to maintain departmental efficiency.
  • Assess and report results, including those submitted by technicians, and evaluate daily QC results; troubleshoot out‑of‑control procedures.
  • Document routine and periodic maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; troubleshoot malfunctions and maintain records.
  • Maintain inventory sheets for assigned areas; report needs to coordinators.
  • Review Standard Operating Procedure manuals; write procedures for new tests and edit revisions.
  • Develop and test new procedures and products, performing statistical evaluation as required; present findings to supervisors.
  • Train and evaluate students and new employees.
  • Operate computer systems for patient data management and quality‑control routines.
  • Perform phlebotomy as requested.
  • Enter own results into the computer system.
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory work area.
  • Attend laboratory meetings, in‑service education meetings, and educational seminars as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in a science‑related field.
  • Ability to utilize analyzers and computers.
  • At least six months of experience in a laboratory environment.

Registration/Certification

  • ASCP, HEW, or NCA (written).

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This position requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, and lifting over 10 lbs. Occasional climbing of stairs and lifting in excess of 50–100 lbs. is required. The role involves constant use of hearing, sight, speech, smell, touch, keyboard, telephone, and concentration.

Pay Range

$31.00 – $54.80 per hour.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Vaccination Requirement

All staff must be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.
