An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Physiotherapy Support Worker to join North Bristol NHS Trust, one of the UK’s largest NHS Hospital Trusts.

Based within the Medicine Pathway, you will work across Specialty Medicine wards, including Gastroenterology, Ward 7B Medicine and Infectious Diseases. You will play an important role in supporting patients to regain their mobility, function and confidence following illness, helping them to achieve greater independence and return home safely.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a supportive multidisciplinary team and contribute to delivering high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

As a Physiotherapy Support Worker, you will:

  • Work with a wide variety of patients across specialist medicine wards.
  • Support physiotherapists to deliver rehabilitation programmes and promote patients’ independence.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to facilitate safe and timely discharge home. Receive support and training from experienced physiotherapy colleagues.
  • Gain valuable experience within one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience in healthcare, the NHS or a similar social care setting.
  • An NVQ Level 3 qualification, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage their own workload.
  • Experience of working under indirect supervision.

Job responsibilities

  • Treating patients referred by physiotherapists. Tasks include organising and implementing physical treatment sessions from treatment protocols, monitoring patient progress.
  • Monitoring patients’ response to physiotherapy programs, evaluating outcomes and adapting input as appropriate, working with patients towards their recovery and discharge.
  • Liaising with therapy staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Supporting the administration to therapy teams with ordering of equipment data input and referral.

Person Specification

Education/Training/Qual

  • GCSE grade A- C (grade 4 and above) or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Completion of Level 3 RQF, NVQ, SCQF/ appropriate level apprenticeship in Healthcare (or the desire to work towards).
  • Good standard of secondary education to GCSE level.
  • Evidence of a continued desire to learn and develop self.

Work Experience

  • Prior experience as a support worker.
  • Experience of working in a health or social care setting.
  • Experience of working in a hospital-based environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Good time management including punctuality and ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Able to work flexibly by using own initiative under the guidance of a registered professional.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic IT skills, word, e‑mail, keyboard.

£25,760 to £27,476 a year per annum, pro rata for part time roles.
