Volunteer Walking Activity Assistant

Job overview

This is a volunteer role on our young and rare dementia service. We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic person to help run a community based walking group. The volunteer will support and encourage participants to stay active and healthy, while also enjoying the experience themselves.

Main duties of the job

The role involves:

• Checking a route and familiarising yourself with it before the walk
• Welcoming walkers to the walks, particularly new walkers
• Giving a brief talk before the walk to make sure everyone is prepared
• Helping to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed

DBS Level for this role is Enhanced with adult barred list

Knowledge, skills and attributes required for the role

• Awareness of dementia
• Friendly and welcoming
• Reliable, punctual, and well organised
• Confident at speaking in front of small groups
• Able to take control and be assertive when needed
• Observant and sensitive to the needs of others
