Overview

As a countywide team we provide support throughout Kent and on occasions in other Local Authority schools that border Kent (Surrey, Sussex, Bexley, Bromley, and Medway) where we have Kent children with SEND. The SEN IA are part of the SEN Support and Inclusion Team for schools and post 16. Our purpose is to ensure that children and young people with SEND will be able to attend their local mainstream school/college wherever possible and for the majority of children, without the need for an Education Health and Care (EHC) Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with local teams within KCC and others including Early Years teams, Specialist Teaching and Learning Service (STLS) Kent PRU Inclusion and attendance Service (KPAS), Kent Educational Psychology Service (KEPS) as well as our SEND Assessment, Placement, Tribunal and EHCP Casework teams.
  • Provide support to schools to identify children and young people with SEND early and ensure that they have the right support at the right time, aiding successful transition between phases in their education.
  • Support the development of whole school inclusion, embedding mainstream core standards and provision planning for children and young people with SEND.
  • Contribute in an advisory and supportive role to the development of Inclusion in a Community of Schools.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Successful completion of the National Award for SEN Coordination or equivalent, or another relevant Post Graduate qualification in SEN.
  • Considerable experience of working within a number of schools strategically and successfully developing their whole school SEND provision.
  • Good command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.

Employment Details

  • Based at the nearest KCC office (Worrall House, Kroner House, or Brook House) with an expectation to work in schools and remotely as required.
  • Subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
