Rotational Occupational Therapist, Band 5

Main area Occupational Therapy. Grade Band 5. Contract: Permanent. Hours: Full time, flexible working. 37.5 hours per week; weekend working may be required on some rotations. Job ref 323-AHP3710-ED.

Job Overview

Opportunity for occupational therapists to join rotations at Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH) based in Chertsey, Surrey.

Applicants are welcome from:

  • Occupational therapy students due to qualify,
  • Qualified therapists waiting for HCPC registration
  • Those who already have experience and are looking to embrace something new.

Flexible working requests will be considered at the point of interview.

Rotations are 4 months in duration and include:

  • Cardiorespiratory Medicine
  • Surgery
  • Emergency services and admission avoidance
  • Early Supported Discharge (ESD) for Stroke (community based, mainly NW Surrey, with remote working)

The rotations will offer you the opportunity to work within different settings and with varied MDT professionals, allowing you to develop your core clinical skills and personal development.

There is an established formal supervision and appraisal process, as well as robust in‑house training within each team. The therapies department encourages staff to progress their careers within the department.

ASPH provides a seven‑day service across some teams and you will be expected to participate in seven‑day working as per service requirements.

This role has a community element; applicants will be expected to hold a valid driver’s licence and access to a car.

Main Duties of the Job

Manage an inpatient or community caseload using respiratory, medical, neurological and orthopaedic skills.

Complete patient assessments in a ward setting or community setting, formulate problem lists and provide appropriate therapy input to facilitate a safe discharge.

Contribute to board rounds or goal planning meetings to ensure patients receive the right treatment, at the right time in the right place.

Communicate with fellow therapists and other MDT members such as nurses, consultants, specialists.

Treat and manage patients requiring post‑operative protocols and ensure they follow their rehabilitation pathways.

Actively participate in regular supervision and service development, and take personal responsibility for professional development and registration requirements.

Show passion for providing a high level of care and safeguarding to patients known to our service.

Have the ability to use initiative, communicate with empathy and be an effective team player.

Qualification and Training

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Experience

  • Experience in core areas of medical, respiratory, neurology and orthopedic conditions.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
  • Experience of working in an acute NHS trust.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out a wide range of assessment and treatment interventions in a holistic manner.
  • Effective communication skills – verbal, written and computer literate.
  • Ability to reflect and identify own learning needs.
