ChoiceFacilities Services is seeking a passionate, hardworking and reliable individual to join our team and fulfil the role of Domestic Team Leader. The role is an exciting opportunity for people who are motivated, flexible, task focused and have excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Coordinate, supervise the domestic staff working within the Trust, and provide support to the Head of Service.
  • Assist the Head of Service to develop and deliver a professional, quality, cost‑effective service that maintains a clean, safe and pleasant environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of the service and build close working relationships with staff in domestic services and users of the service.
  • Provide ongoing daily support to the domestic team, stepping into a domestic role as needed.
  • Supervise and lead domestic staff in the most cost‑effective way.
  • Cover several different areas in the same day, including St Benedicts Hospice in Sunderland, Clarendon (Hebburn) and Palmer Hospital (Jarrow) as required.
  • Maintain South Tyneside as the main work base, with occasional visits to Clarendon (Hebburn) and Palmer Hospital (Jarrow) and other locations.

Shift pattern

Five days out of seven, 6 am to 10 pm and night shift 10 pm to 6 am.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have day‑to‑day responsibility for the supervision of the Domestic & Linen Teams and the services they provide. They will be responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of high‑quality cleaning and hygiene related duties.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise own and others’ workloads.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Hospital Support Service functions.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a support services function.
  • Supervisory knowledge gained through formal courses or secondment.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience operating and interrogating an electronic management system.

Qualifications

  • GCSE level or equivalent qualification, including Maths and English.
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification or substantial experience in a support service role with the equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Willingness to study for any qualifications deemed appropriate to the post – e.g., ILM Level 2/Advanced apprenticeship.
  • Health and safety awareness.
  • Current driving licence.

Physical skills

  • Moving and handling.
  • Ability to sit at workstations as necessary.

Special requirements

  • Ability to work 5 days out of 7, including bank holiday.
  • Work flexible hours ranging from 6 am to 10 pm, night shift 10 pm to 6 am.
  • Ability to work at other trust locations when necessary.
