Security Operations Engineer

Cyber intelligence Analysis

Position within eBay’s Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) focused on identifying and mitigating information‑security threats.

Core Job Functions

• Leadership – Guides the CSIRT team in day-to-day operations, covers during on‑call rotations with shift leads, and manages ticket queue/workload.
• Escalations – Respond to escalated events from security analysts to develop and execute security controls and countermeasures.
• Research – Investigate attempted or successful efforts to compromise systems and design effective countermeasures.
• Communications – Provide management with information regarding the business impact of theft, destruction, alteration, or denial of access to information and systems.
• Digital Forensics – Conduct HR investigations and legal holds in a forensically sound manner, consulting with HR and legal experts to adhere to local laws.
• Coverage – Willingness to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and participate in shift‑lead on‑call rotation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in incident detection and response, malware analysis, or digital forensics.

Must Have at Least One of the Following Certifications

• SANS GIAC: GCED, GCIA, GCFA, GPEN, GWAPT, GCFE, GSNA, GPPA, GAWN, GWEB, GNFA, GREM, GXPN, GMON or GCIH
• ISC2: CCFP, CCSP, CISSP
• Cisco: CCNA, CCNP
• CERT: CSIH
• EC Council: CEH, ENSA, CNDA, ECSS, ECSP, ECES, CHFI, LPT, ECSA, or ECIH
• Offensive Security: OSCP, OSCE, OSWP and OSEE
• EnCase: EnCE

Specialised Experience

• Security Assessment or Offensive Security
• Application Security
• Security Operations Centre / Security Incident Response
• Cyber Intelligence Analysis

Skills and Knowledge

• Incident Response – Ability to lead complex investigations in real-time.
• Offensive Techniques – Proficiency in penetration testing, IOCs, and exploits at all layers.
• Logs – Comfortable using a SIEM to gather, analyze, recreate incidents, and hunt for threats.
• System Forensics – Basic understanding of image acquisition, memory forensics, and related techniques.
• Networking Fundamentals – TCP/IP protocols, HTTP, DNS, FTP, DHCP, ARP, etc., and Wireshark/TCPDump.
• Scripting – Familiarity with at least one scripting language such as Python, Perl, or similar.
• Risk Analysis – Ability to assess vulnerabilities and associated practical risks.
