Vice President, Operational Effectiveness – Role Overview
Accountable for enabling accelerated, compliant and efficient delivery of clinical trial programs across the R&D organization by driving operational effectiveness as a competitive advantage. Leads the integration of performance intelligence, process redesign, and planning into a unified system, translating the Development Operations three‑year strategy into actionable plans. Manages a portfolio of operational capabilities, establishes fit‑for‑purpose standards, KPI‑driven insights, and effective risk and issue management to ensure high‑quality outcomes aligned to GSK priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Set Strategy & Roadmap: Align operational effectiveness initiatives with R&D and Development Operations priorities, creating a comprehensive strategy and roadmap.
- Performance Intelligence & Benchmarking: Design and own a performance framework that maximizes data and analytics, benchmarks against external peers, diagnoses underperformance, and designs targeted interventions.
- Process Reimagination & Future‑State Ways of Working: Lead the redesign of end‑to‑end clinical trial processes, transition from current‑state to target operating models, and embed sustainable improvements.
- Transformation Design & Value Realisation: Create value propositions, lead implementation, capture measurable benefits, and report transformational outcome metrics.
- Capability Building & Culture Transformation: Identify and grow critical capabilities, develop training plans, standardize processes, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Operational Excellence for Select Capabilities: Own governance and delivery for portfolio capabilities such as third‑party excellence, clinical documentation/eTMF, project‑management support, and compliance monitoring.
- Integrate With Platforms & Innovation: Partner with Digital Platforms & Innovation to ensure integrated data, shape analytics roadmaps, and support technology adoption.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate cross‑functionally, build networks of partners, and influence at senior levels across the organization.
Qualifications
- Education: Advanced degree in a scientific, business, or operational discipline.
- Experience: Extensive background in pharmaceuticals or biotech, clinical operations or operational excellence, with deep understanding of ICH/GCP and global regulatory guidelines.
- Leadership: Proven people‑leadership, managing and developing teams to deliver results.
- Strategic & Critical Thinking: Strong analytical skills, problem‑solving, influencing, and decision‑making capability at senior levels.
- Business & Financial Acumen: Experience with business case development and benefit tracking.
- Transformation & Continuous Improvement: Track record of leading large‑scale transformation or continuous improvement programmes to measurable value.
- Governance & Vendor Management: Experience governing and managing third‑party vendor operations.
- Digital & Technology Adoption: Proven ability to drive adoption of technology and digital solutions within operational settings.
- Communication: Effective communicator with ability to influence at all levels, including executive leadership.
