Assistant Project Manager

At CrossCountry, we’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects that improve our business, enhance our trains, and deliver a better experience for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Support the successful delivery of projects aligned to Department for Transport (DfT) contractual commitments and CrossCountry’s Annual Business Plan.
- Develop, maintain and monitor project plans, ensuring milestones, actions and deliverables remain on track.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day project activities and ensure actions are clearly assigned, monitored and completed.
- Prepare and present project updates through governance forums, including project and programme boards.
- Identify, monitor and manage project risks, issues and dependencies, ensuring effective mitigation plans are in place.
- Build positive relationships with stakeholders and support clear, consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate collaboration across project teams, ensuring priorities, progress and next steps are understood.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement across future projects.
- Lead smaller projects or individual workstreams from initiation through to successful completion.
Qualifications
- Experience working within a project, programme or delivery environment.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation.
- Experience planning, tracking and reporting project activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving risks and issues.
- The ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Microsoft Project or similar software would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of the railway industry is a plus but not essential.
- Interest in developing your project management career through recognised qualifications such as PRINCE2 or APM.
