Role Description

This is a contract, on-site Industrial Electrician role based in Workington. The Industrial Electrician will install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in industrial environments, including production lines, plant equipment, and associated control systems. Daily tasks include interpreting electrical drawings and schematics, performing fault-finding and diagnostics, carrying out planned preventive maintenance, and completing safe isolation and lockout/tagout procedures. The role involves installing and terminating cabling, panels, and motors, testing and inspecting electrical installations to relevant standards, and documenting work through maintenance records and reports. The Industrial Electrician will work closely with engineering, mechanical, and operations teams to minimize downtime, support project delivery, and uphold all safety and compliance requirements on site.

Qualifications

  • Strong industrial electrical installation, maintenance, and repair skills, including experience with motors, control panels, and production equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation, with accurate fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
  • Experience with testing, inspection, and commissioning of industrial electrical systems, including use of relevant test instruments and adherence to applicable standards and regulations.
  • Solid understanding of safety practices such as safe isolation, lockout/tagout, and risk assessments within industrial and heavy engineering environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with mechanical, fabrication, and project teams to support integrated engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Recognized electrical qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent), with relevant industrial or heavy engineering experience.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Willingness to work shifts or overtime when required, and to operate safely within client and site‑specific procedures and policies.
  • Experience in sectors such as manufacturing, heavy industry, utilities, or engineering services is beneficial.
