We have recently secured a number of exciting new education, cultural and regeneration projects across the practice and are looking to grow our team. As a result, we are looking for an experienced Project Technologist who can help lead project teams through technical stages. This is an opportunity to join a friendly, progressive, design focused and inclusive architectural practice, working out of a studio with an excellent level of amenities including café, gym and childcare, in addition to excellent transport links and parking.
Role
Generally, our Project Technologists run smaller scale projects, or complex packages (BIM or technical delivery) within larger projects. They take on responsibility for managing small internal teams, feeding into workload discussions, supporting the Senior Technologist and Studio Associate to deliver projects.
People Skills
Be able to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, building strong rapport, creating positive and lasting relationships and providing project leadership. Have emerging interpersonal skills to include understanding of sensitivities when in communication with and presenting to clients. Have emerging verbal and visual presentation skills and ability to explain a design idea and evolution of a concept. Demonstrate an emerging understanding and experience of empowering and motivating a team. Have the ability to effectively brief and delegate packages of work, empowering junior members of the team. Be committed to researching and maintaining knowledge of the discipline, to ensure continued professional development and experience is always driven forwards. Have the ability to interrogate information from sub-contractors and sub consultants and formulate a plan to deliver a package of work with an awareness of coordination issues, or design items that could impact on legislative compliance.
Project Skills
Show ability to manage and deliver several small-scale projects or delivery of individual complex technical packages on larger schemes through the technical stages of a project, with guidance and support from Senior Technologists and studio Associate. Have a developing understanding of financial implications of design decisions or changes requested by clients. Have a developing understanding and experience of a variety of construction methods.
Have a developing knowledge and experience of product specification and selection for a variety of project locations and types, including consideration of sustainability and environmental performance. Have a developing knowledge of past, current and future legislation and current UK regulatory requirements.
Have an eye for design quality and be able to deliver design solutions in line with Powell Dobson’s vision for the highest quality design.
Have elemental experience in writing specifications in NBS Chorus or Uniclass. Have a solid understanding of legislative guidance documentation and client requirements when working through drawing packages. Be a problem solver and have the ability to come up with solutions following research or discussions with colleagues / specialists. Assist with formation of fee proposals for new projects, and variations for current projects. Have an awareness and understanding of implications of design on health and safety. Designer Risk Assessments and cleaning & maintenance documentation to be led by Senior Technologist on Project. Be motivated and comfortable developing packages without frequent guidance. Have the ability to interrogate information and formulate a plan to deliver a package of work. Be responsible for the preparation and coordination of detailed design and production information for the technical stages of a project.
BIM
Be proficient in AutoDesk Revit, taking the lead on day-to-day management of models and drawing packages. Be able to advise and input on project programming from a BIM perspective. Be familiar with Navisworks and Solibri, for clash detection exercises. Have an understanding in BIM model federation and work sets, ensuring team is working efficiently.
Have an awareness of BIM standards (including ISO 19650) and experience working within a Common Data Environment (CDE).
Be proficient in presentation software including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up or similar. Be able to input into office BIM / CAD processes and procedures.
Experience
ONC / HNC/ BTEC / BSc (Hons) qualification in the field of design. ACIAT status (Associate Architectural Technologist) or higher
