PLANT OPERATIVE – WASTE MANAGEMENT

Location: Tilbury, Essex RM18

Pay: From £13.30 per hour (Temporary role)

Shifts: Days & Nights – 12 hour shifts (6am‑6pm and 6pm‑6am) weekly rota.

Responsibilities

• Effectively and continuously monitor all plant processing, sorting machines and screens, keeping them clean and operating at maximum efficiency.
• Respond to any machine issues, plant bottlenecks or blockages, reacting to alarms and rectifying or reporting as required.
• Step up and cover senior plant operators and other plant roles when needed.
• Ensure all landings, walkways and stairs are kept free of debris and that work does not restrict safe access or interfere with plant machines and equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of landings and machines, promptly reporting or rectifying any spillage.
• Complete accurate paperwork at the start and end of every shift to confirm a safe handover.
• Act on issues found promptly and report as required.
• Operate company FLT (if trained).
• Keep all machines free of dust build‑up.
• Provide relief to other plant operative roles during breaks and holiday cover.
• Monitor all waste streams throughout the shift, addressing any adverse variations quickly and effectively.
• Assist Maintenance during plant downtime, ensuring tasks are supervised or fully understood and safety requirements met.
• Recognise that the role can be very dusty; PPE masks are used in the area.
