SALARY: £27,417 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION:Darlington / Durham and Tees Valley, North East England

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Up to 37.5 hours/week

JOB OVERVIEW

The organisation is looking for an experienced Domestic Abuse Support Worker with excellent communication skills, empathy, resilience and the ability to work calmly and professionally with people affected by domestic abuse.

As the Domestic Abuse Support Worker you will work across refuge and community-based services, providing high-quality, client-led, trauma informed support to women and their children, as well as adults experiencing domestic abuse.

Working as the Domestic Abuse Support Worker you will also help service users understand their circumstances, recognise the features and dynamics of domestic abuse, make informed choices and work towards positive, sustainable change.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Domestic Abuse Support Worker will include:

  • Providing trauma informed support using a whole-family approach, helping create clear pathways into relevant services
  • Assessing, managing and reviewing risks to service users, colleagues and yourself
  • Assessing service user needs and developing outcome-focused support plans using solution-focused and strength-based methods
  • Working in partnership with clients to empower them to make long-term, sustained change
  • Implementing and reviewing support and risk management plans to help ensure desired outcomes are achieved
  • Developing and delivering planned interventions to meet needs and improve outcomes for individuals and families
  • Supporting the empowerment of victims and helping them regain control of their lives
  • Planning and implementing activities that promote self-awareness, confidence and participation
  • Working towards a planned conclusion of support, including signposting into relevant universal or specialist community services
  • Maintaining effective information sharing between internal and external services

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience working with clients affected by domestic abuse, substance misuse or mental ill health
  • Understanding of safeguarding
  • Compassionate, resilient and calm approach
  • Excellent people skills and communication skills
  • Flexible, engaging and able to use initiative
  • Ability to work with service users in a trauma informed, client-led and empowering way
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
