Role Overview
Shop managers are responsible for leading the retail shop, motivating staff and volunteers, creating a safe and energised work environment, maintaining high standards, driving commercial results, and ensuring accountability for the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Motivate and support the shop team and volunteers, ensuring excellent customer service and high quality retail processes.
- Develop and inspire staff, coaching and delegating effectively.
- Make commercial decisions, monitor sales and financial performance, and control expenditure.
- Ensure the shop runs smoothly in the manager’s absence through effective delegation.
- Maintain safeguarding, ethical conduct and staff well-being in line with Oxfam’s code of conduct.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership, with experience of building and developing a team.
- Commercial awareness and judgement, with ability to set and achieve business targets.
- Ability to establish and run retail processes, merchandising, and visual presentation.
- Basic financial literacy, interpreting sales and profit reports.
- Good IT literacy, including email, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner.
- Resilience, motivation and a sense of fun.
- Ability to adapt to change and support others.
