Data QA / Test Engineer | Large Retail Brand | £51,000 | Manchester (Hybrid)
We’re hiring a hands‑on Data QA / Test Engineer to join a major data modernisation programme at one of the UK’s most recognisable retail brands.
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to help shape the quality and reliability of a modern data platform from the ground up — working with modern tooling across Snowflake, dbt and cloud technologies at pace and scale.
The Programme
You’ll be joining a large‑scale data transformation initiative focused on replatforming a legacy reporting and data estate onto a modern cloud stack (Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran and Azure), retiring legacy warehouses and delivering change across multiple international markets.
Fast‑moving, highly visible and backed at leadership level, this programme will play a key role in improving confidence and trust in business reporting and analytics.
The Role
Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the data platform being built is accurate, scalable and production ready.
This isn’t traditional application testing or click‑through QA — this is data‑focused test engineering with a strong emphasis on automation, reconciliation and data quality.
You’ll be:
- Designing and executing test strategies across modern data pipelines
- Building automated reconciliation and regression testing frameworks
- Creating and maintaining data quality checks and validation processes
- Developing and maintaining dbt testing capability
- Integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows
- Investigating data quality issues and supporting root cause analysis
- Working closely with Data Engineers and Business Analysts to define testable outcomes
- Supporting release readiness and ensuring confidence in production data
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years’ experience in QA, Test Engineering or Data Quality roles within data platforms
- Strong SQL — comfortable validating and reconciling complex transformations
- Experience building automated testing frameworks in modern data environments
- Hands‑on exposure to cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred)
- Experience integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Comfortable using Git and working within Agile teams
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
Nice to Have:
- Experience with data reconciliation during migration projects
- Power BI or reporting validation experience
- Exposure to data observability tooling
- Experience within retail, hospitality or high‑volume data environments
