MRI Clinical Specialist
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 MRI Radiographer to support the MRI service at Queens Hospital Burton and other UHDB sites.
UHDB MRI service delivery is provided by state‑of‑the‑art Philips MRI scanners, Siemens Sola and an open Esaote Maginfico MRI scanner. The service consists of 10 MRI scanners (8 × 1.5T, 1 × 3T and 1 × 0.4T) used for a wide range of complex and non‑complex diagnostic MRI examinations, including cardiac MRI.
The post holder will join a large, friendly team and quickly become integral to an expanding service. MRI services run 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, with an on‑call service at Royal Derby Hospital.
You will have a BSc degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent and current registration with the Health and Professions Council (HCPC).
Main duties of the job
- Provide a high quality and efficient MRI service for the Trust.
- Work as part of a professional radiography team, delivering excellent diagnostic services.
- Apply excellent MRI and patient‑care skills.
- Practice safely in line with MHRA guidelines and departmental safety policies.
- Participate in the departmental Quality Assurance Program, risk management and risk assessments.
- Identify and promote best practice.
- Deliver staff and student training, including CPD presentations as part of the radiographers‑education programme and external bodies.
- Be based primarily at Queens Hospital Burton, with duty across other UHDB sites as service needs require.
Qualifications
- BSc Hons or equivalent.
- PG Cert in a specialist area.
Professional Registration
- HCPC Registered.
Experience
- Previous cross‑sectional imaging practice.
- Evidence of CPD/conferences attended.
- Demonstrated empathy and understanding when responding to patient and carer needs, including terminally ill patients.
- Compassionate attitude towards patients and staff.
- Effective communication with a wide variety of patient groups.
Skills
- Ability to assess patient condition to achieve quality radiographic results.
- Basic keyboard and IT skills, manipulation of radiography equipment, and moving and handling of patients; ability to manipulate specialist MRI equipment.
- Provision of appropriate specialist radiographic service.
