Qualified Social Worker (Adults Learning Disabilities) – 6 month Maternity cover

Service: Adult Social Care & Health

Salary: £35,412 – £46,142 (Career Grade)

Working Arrangements: Hybrid Working

Hours per week: 3 x 37 hours

Contract type: Fixed Term 6 months

Required to speak English to an appropriate standard.

This post requires an Enhanced DBS Check. If you are the preferred candidate for the post and have lived overseas in the last five years, you will be required to apply for an overseas criminal records check. Applicants must hold all necessary legal documents, including a valid visa; the Council does not provide sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of adults with learning disabilities, providing support across multiple settings and during periods of change.
  • Assess needs under the Care Act, conduct safeguarding, and evaluate capacity, including representing clients in court and advocating for their rights.
  • Work closely with the person, families, multidisciplinary team and management to develop strategies that improve independence and life opportunities.
  • Plan, coordinate resources, and collaborate with external agencies to deliver positive outcomes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Recognised social work qualification.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Passion for, and ideally relevant experience of, working with people with learning disabilities.
  • Commitment to high‑quality assessments and collaboration with agencies.
  • Knowledge of key legislation, local and national policy issues, and anti‑oppressive practice.
