Job overview

The Assistant Pathway Coordinator supports the smooth progression of patients through outpatient, diagnostic and treatment pathways. Working within the administrative team, responsibilities include data entry, ad‑hoc appointment booking and scheduling, preparation of clinic documentation, routine patient and staff correspondence, and escalation of any discrepancies to ensure timely pathway progression and data quality.

Tasks require adherence to standard operating procedures, prioritisation of competing deadlines, and accurate, detail‑oriented work.

The role is part of a multi‑disciplinary team, acting as the key administrative contact for patients and staff. Duties include accurate data entry, appointment coordination, proactive RTT pathway tracking, and following SOPs to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred service.

Education, qualifications and training

  • A levels or NVQ level 3
  • Basic IT skills (e.g. Word, Outlook)
  • Customer service or admin qualification
  • Training in EPR systems

Knowledge and understanding

  • Administrative processes in healthcare
  • Confidentiality and data protection requirements
  • Medical terminology
  • Outpatient / elective care processes
  • Basic understanding of RTT and patient pathways

Experience

  • Administrative or customer‑facing role experience
  • IT systems and data entry experience
  • Handling patient enquiries or similar customer service
  • Use of EPR or booking systems
  • Support of outpatient clinics or admissions
