Job Overview

Mechanical Maintenance Grade Band 5 – Permanent, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Participation on a mechanical on‑call rota is required.

Job reference: 153‑CO06152‑A. Department: UHD – General Recruitment Site. Base location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Interview date: 16 July 2026.

Salary: £32,073 – £39,043 per annum (Band 5) plus local RRP (£3,500 pa) and an approximate £1,000 on-call retainer.

Relocation expenses are available for this role.

Driving licence: Full UK manual licence required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance, repair, and installation services for buildings, grounds, engineering services, and associated equipment across the Trust.
  • Work independently in a complex engineering/building environment, complying with Health & Safety and environmental regulations.
  • Diagnose faults and perform test & repair work on a wide range of complex engineering services & equipment.
  • Participate in an emergency on‑call rota outside normal hours.

Qualifications

  • HNC in Building Services or equivalent apprenticeship, plus specialist training and experience to graduate level.
  • Authorised/Responsible and/or Competent Person in one or more of the following specialisms: LV Electrical Systems, HV Electrical Systems, Heating & Ventilation Systems, Decontamination, Safe Water Systems, Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS), Confined Spaces.

Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical and/or plumbing systems in NHS premises.
  • In‑depth knowledge of all relevant legislation, technical guidance, and health technical memoranda.
  • Significant experience working in a complex engineering/building environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems in NHS premises.
  • Skilled in maintenance, fault finding, and testing & repair of a wide range of engineering services & equipment.

Other Requirements

  • Participate in the on‑call rota outside normal hours.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Language Requirement

  • Ability to speak English as required for the role.
