Volunteer role

Maintenance / Gardener Volunteer at a local RSPCA branch.

Where you will be based

Community – working on the centre grounds and facilities.

What you will be doing

  • Carry out routine safety and maintenance inspections (fire alarms, fire extinguishers, fire doors, exit routes).
  • Perform legionella control measures and visual inspections for leaks, damaged outlets, and submerged hoses.
  • Unblock and rod drains, descend for maintenance of water systems, descale taps, and maintain proper drainage.
  • Engage in interior and exterior tasks such as painting, carpentry, lawn mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning and general garden upkeep.
  • Help prepare the site for open days and other events.
  • Support other ad‑hoc events and promote the RSPCA to visitors.

The skills you need

  • Must be 18 or over.
  • Willingness to pitch in, help out, and get your hands dirty.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy items; some heavy lifting will be involved.
  • Experience in a relevant trade is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in unpredictable weather.
  • Positive attitude and teamwork.
