Mechanical Package Manager (Plymouth) – Fulltime
An opportunity to work on our MOD project in Plymouth, delivering major redevelopment works over the coming years.
PAYE basis. £450 – £550 per day depending on experience/qualifications.
Paid Holidays: 30 days per year (including bank holidays).
This role is site based – Monday to Friday. 45 hours per week 07:30am – 17:00pm.
Must Have
- Technical knowledge of all phases of construction engineering relating to a multi-discipline in a single area
- Has knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration
- Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Client Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility
- Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents
- Prior experience supervising and administering contractors using the NEC contract
- Excellent record keeping of progress, resources and materials
- Management of quality assurance documentation and handover packages
- Academic Qualifications – HNC in Mechanical engineering or NVQ Level 6 diploma in Mechanical engineering Desirable but not essential.
- SMSTS
- Experience of similar role desirable, preferred in relevant sector (i.e Nuclear and Defence)
- CSCS – Professionally qualified person (White Card) / Black Card (Managers Card)
- Professional Membership Advantageous but not essential
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate construction and engineering teams, including subcontractors and mechanical packages
- Ensure works are procured, planned, and delivered safely in line with UK legislation, CDM, and project requirements
- Manage design coordination, reviewing designs with clients and designers for buildability, safety, and compliance
- Manage change control, risks, and opportunities within your area of responsibility
- Monitor programme and progress, including short‑term planning and 6‑week look ahead schedules (AphEX)
- Provide accurate progress and cost information to the project management team
- Maintain strong commercial awareness and support delivery in line with agreed budgets and NEC4 processes
- Oversee quality assurance including ITPs, RAMS, material approvals, and lifetime quality recordsLead and develop project teams, setting clear expectations and managing performance
- Manage interfaces between client, internal teams, subcontractors, and the supply chain
- Ensure accurate project records and document control (ProjectWise beneficial)
- Support QHSE management with specialist teams
Experience
- Strong leadership within regulated or secure environments
- Programme, commercial, and quality management expertise
- NEC4 experience beneficial
- CEMAR experience desirable but not essential
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and proactive quality engagement
