- Investigate and respond to public enquiries about traffic and road safety
About the Role
Supporting the Team Leader in the delivery of a high-quality traffic & road safety and maintenance service across the County, with specific responsibility for the Vale of the White Horse District.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic professional with proven experience of the technical elements and legislation around the implementation of a variety of traffic and highway related schemes such as traffic calming, bus stops, pedestrian crossings, speed limit changes, junction improvements, and traffic signs and road markings. You will be responsible for the design and project management of the schemes from inception to completion and will have a high attention to detail.
There will also be an expectation for you to take on general traffic management duties such as the maintenance of traffic signs and road markings on the highway network and the investigation of enquires and complaints.
You will be adept at positively representing the County Council, whether that be in person, or through written correspondence. As well as dealing with members of the public the role has contact with all levels of the political structure, from County Councillors to Parish Councils where you will need to be diplomatic and politically aware and be sympathetic to their requests.
You will be self‑motivated and able to work with minimal supervision whilst working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team responsible for the highway network.
You will need to be willing to learn new skills and be a team player that contributes to building a positive and engaged working environment.
The role is based at County Hall, Oxford, with flexible and agile working options. Site visits for inspections and project supervision are required. Your office base may be subject to change as we are currently transitioning between temporary and permanent office locations due to the closure of County Hall.
