Position: Specialist Pharmacist – NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service, Western General Hospital (Band 7, 0.83 WTE, 30 Hours, Permanent Post). Salary £52,845 to £61,466 pro rata per annum (includes weekends, on‑call and public holiday commitments).

About the Role

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated pharmacist to advance in Medicine of the Elderly (MOE), providing pharmaceutical care to frail older people across admissions and downstream wards.

  • Play a key role in the pharmaceutical care of older patients.
  • Collaborate with the MOE pharmacy team and multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise medicines and care.
  • Support and develop other pharmacy team members.
  • Engage in service improvement, pursue professional development (e.g., prescribing courses), and deliver education and training.

Key Experience and Qualifications

  • Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent) and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration.
  • Completion of or equivalent competence mapped to the RPS post‑registration foundation pharmacist curriculum.
  • Commitment to improving patient care through proactive, evidence‑based pharmaceutical services.
  • Experience influencing prescribing practices and working in a patient‑focused environment.
