  • Location: Predominantly Newton Park Campus, with regular travel across Bath Spa University campuses and some flexibility for remote working
  • Salary: £38,784 – £43,482 per annum (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Bath Spa Students’ Union is seeking a proactive and driven Governance & Strategic Projects Manager to play a pivotal role at the heart of the organisation.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will enable the effective delivery of the Students’ Union’s strategic priorities by providing senior-level governance leadership, organisational coordination, and hands‑on project delivery. Acting as Clerk to the Board of Trustees, you will ensure high standards of governance, compliance, and decision‑making, while also leading key cross-organisational projects from concept through to completion.

This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic oversight with practical implementation – working closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT), trustees, and student leaders to ensure the organisation operates effectively, collaboratively, and with impact.

Key Responsibilities

Governance Leadership & Board Support

  • Act as Clerk to the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Coordinate and manage Board and committee operations, including agendas, papers, and minutes
  • Support trustees to be informed, engaged, and effective in their roles
  • Maintain governance documentation and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Provide expert advice on governance best practice

Strategic Projects & Delivery

  • Lead and deliver high-impact strategic projects aligned to organisational priorities
  • Take full ownership of projects from initiation to implementation and evaluation
  • Embed strong project management approaches, ensuring clarity, accountability, and outcomes
  • Monitor progress against strategic priorities, identifying risks and driving solutions
  • Use data and insight to inform decision‑making and continuous improvement

Senior Management Team Enablement

  • Support the SMT with planning, coordination, and delivery oversight
  • Ensure effective prioritisation, tracking, and follow‑through of actions
  • Contribute strategic insight and constructive challenge to decision‑making
  • Deputise for SMT members where appropriate, representing the organisation internally and externally

Organisational Effectiveness

  • Drive improvements in systems, processes, and ways of working
  • Enable consistent, high-quality delivery across multiple campuses
  • Foster collaboration and alignment across teams
  • Identify and implement sector best practice
