The Engineering Development Group (EDG) is a technical and leadership development program that acts as the engine to fuel talent growth at MathWorks. The role of the EDG manager is central to the success of not just the engineers but also has a high impact on the successful and sustained growth of the company. The emphasis in this position is on managing and developing people, rather than technical work. MathWorks develops industry‑leading mathematical computing software that helps engineers and scientists turn ideas into real‑world innovations. We use a hybrid work model, with staff members working onsite at least three days a week, remotely for the remainder of the week. Responsibilities

  • Hire and lead a high-performing team of STEM graduates, primarily engineers and computer scientists with a variety of skillsets.
  • Support the growth of your team through coaching and mentorship, partnering with Software Development and other technical groups, to build deep technical skills and guide engineers toward their next career step within MathWorks.
  • Enable the team to provide high quality, specialized product support to our customers while helping the team build product expertise and customer workflow knowledge.
  • Jump in, roll up your sleeves, and take the lead to improve processes.
  • Identify and lead projects to continually grow the scale and strategic impact of the EDG program.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and 7 years of professional work experience (or equivalent experience) is required. 2 years management experience is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or another STEM subject
  • 2+ years management experience (software or engineering company preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong leadership experience and passion for coaching and mentoring engineers
  • Customer facing experience (e.g., Technical Support or Application Engineering)
