Project Manager – Tunnelling & Underground Transmission Infrastructure

Location: Hybrid with UK travel.

Salary: Competitive + Excellent Benefits.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a proven background delivering tunnelling or underground infrastructure projects, ideally within the electricity transmission or utilities sector.

This is not a traditional construction Project Manager position. The successful candidate will understand the unique challenges associated with underground cable routes, shafts, tunnels and associated civil engineering works. Experience working on major cable tunnel projects such as London Power Tunnels or similar utility, transport or infrastructure tunnelling schemes would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the successful delivery of underground transmission and tunnelling projects from feasibility through to completion.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors and specialist consultants.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, risks and resources.
  • Lead client meetings and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Monitor project performance, commercial objectives and contractual obligations.
  • Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Produce regular progress reports and provide strategic updates to senior stakeholders.
  • Support the continued growth of the business by identifying new opportunities within existing client accounts.

About You

We would like to hear from Project Managers who have experience delivering complex underground infrastructure projects.

Ideally you will have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Electricity transmission cable tunnel projects.
  • Utility or power infrastructure tunnelling.
  • Large diameter shaft construction.
  • Underground civil engineering.
  • Major infrastructure tunnelling projects within rail, highways, water or energy.

You will also possess:

  • Demonstrable experience managing complex engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial project delivery.
  • Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A structured and proactive approach to programme, cost and risk management.
  • APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification is desirable.
  • An engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
