Equans is looking for a Shift Electrical Engineer to join our team at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick. This is a full‑time role working 40.25 hours per week. The schedule is a shift rota: 2 days on (7am‑7pm) then 2 nights on (7pm‑7am) then 4 days off.

Salary: £32,000‑£35,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, plus a shift allowance and benefits package.

What you will deliver

  • Proactively respond to reactive jobs to diagnose, fault‑find and repair complex mechanical systems according to relevant standards, operational procedures and legislation.
  • Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during night shift, acting as the initial point of contact. Assess the issue, allocate tasks to the appropriate team member and complete the necessary documentation. Ensure all records are handed over to the Helpdesk team at the start of their shift to support effective service continuity.
  • Obtain Competent Person status after training and instruction for systems such as low‑voltage electrical systems, access control systems, alarm systems and medical gas installations.
  • Assume role of Authorised Person following appropriate training and familiarisation.
  • Work on (but not limited to) emergency lighting, nurse calls, general electrics, fire alarms.

Who you should be

  • Hold City and Guilds levels 2 and 3.
  • AM2 and 18th Edition certifications.
  • Previously worked within a maintenance environment.
  • Previously worked within a healthcare maintenance environment (desirable).

This role includes a DBS Standard check; ability to pass is essential.
