Staff Nurse (BAND 5) – Children and Young People’s Day Unit

Job Overview

Our busy CYP Daycare and Outpatients sees over 6000 thousand patients a year, requiring systemic anti‑cancer therapy, radiotherapy, and supportive care. The unit serves patients aged 1 to 24 years. We invite Child Registered Nurse candidates with a passion for cancer care to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence‑based nursing care in collaboration with the shift coordinator.
• Develop a greater awareness of the needs of patients with cancer and the various treatment modalities administered in the unit.
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift under the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
• Take an active role in unit leadership and management of the service in line with trust values.
• Lead projects to improve the patient journey through the service.
• Support the development of both the team and pre‑ and post‑registration placements through positive role‑modeling and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification in oncology or a speciality area, required for a Band 6 position.
• Exceptional communication skills and a history of positive role‑modeling.
• Experience or willingness to gain experience in SACT administration and cancer care delivery.
