Overview

Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) seeks a Citizen Science Manager to lead the delivery and ongoing development of the Trust’s Citizen Science Strategy 2026‑2033. The role will involve managing complex technical projects and engaging volunteers, citizen science champions and species recorders to generate high‑quality environmental data that informs conservation decisions and supports the Surrey Biodiversity Information Centre (SBIC).

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery and ongoing development of SWT’s Citizen Science Strategy 2026‑2033.
  • Manage large, multi‑stakeholder projects with technical requirements.
  • Engage, motivate and lead volunteers, citizen science champions and species recorders to collect robust biodiversity datasets.
  • Provide data‑driven insights to inform conservation decisions, influence policy, nature recovery and land management.
  • Coordinate with SBIC to enhance habitat and species data for Surrey.
  • Maintain effective administrative processes and support team members.

Qualifications

  • Relevant environmental qualification (essential).
  • Professional background in nature conservation, ecology or environmental science.
  • Experience managing large projects and supervising or team management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of local environmental records centre work.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, self‑motivated and detail oriented.
  • Capacity to work systematically, both independently and as part of a team.
