Locum Consultant Gynaecologist

Job Title

Applications are invited for a full‑time locum consultant gynaecologist post (Gynaecological Cancer Unit Specialist) for 12 months.

Overview

This post is developed to complement existing consultants, expand and strengthen the skilled workforce, and meet the sustained growth of gynaecological service demands and gynaecological cancer NHS targets. The post‑holder will join a dynamic and dedicated team committed to delivering excellent service for women across outpatients, procedures, and theatres, helping reduce waiting times and clinical risk.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) serves Birmingham and the Black Country.

Responsibilities

• Cover operating lists, outpatient clinics and the gynaecology on‑call rota at the frequency agreed by the directorate.
• Support the on‑call obstetrician consultant upon request (no obstetrics commitments).
• Carry out complex gynaecological surgery.
• Engage in clinical research and medical education in partnership with the University of Birmingham and the University of Aston.

Qualifications

• Current CCT or equivalent (or within 6 months of expected receipt of a CCT at interview).
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with full GMC registration and MRCOG (or equivalent).
• Proficiency in performing complex gynaecological surgery.
• Completed ATSM or SITM in Gynaecological Oncology.
• Skills in colposcopy and management of vulval disease.
