About the Role

As we make the move to Net Zero, we’re looking for a Lead Project Manager OHL to help deliver Overhead lines and cables works on the Sea Link Project. Sea Link is an HVDC link to reinforce the transmission network between Suffolk and Kent with 2GW of transfer capacity. The project OHL is being delivered as part of the Great Grid Partnership and is at an early stage of development, delivery and project assessment. The scheme presents an ideal opportunity to give something back to society in delivering our net zero ambition. You’ll be working on one of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy, supporting the Senior Project Manager in overseeing and managing the Sea Link OHL Project. The purpose of the Job is to develop, sanction, deliver and close a major project to time, cost and specification in accordance with the National Grid Network Development Process. Ensuring health, safety and environmental issues are managed throughout the process and projects deliver the business’ regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments. This is a highly visible, variable‑based role, offering real exposure to complex delivery environments. You’ll spend regular time on site in Kent (a few days each week), with additional travel across the wider project region as required.

Technical or Specialist
- Proficient Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
- Proficient knowledge of NEC/EPC contracts.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Electricity Transmission Systems, Overhead lines, Cable System Engineering, Engineering and Installation of Cables, Civil Engineering.
- Knowledge of business processes and governance.
- Understanding of RIIO (Regulation) mechanisms.
- Working knowledge and application of CDM.
- Proficient understanding and experience of Safety and Environmental legislation, practices and policies.
- Proficient in Contract Management.
- Educated to a degree or equivalent level or with relevant experience.
- Experience of working on major infrastructure projects and programmes.
- With membership of RICS, CIOB, APM or equivalent relevant professional institution desirable.
- Full UK driving licence.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the National Grid investment process during pre-construction (including Development and Consenting processes), delivery and closure of projects of varying complexity.
- Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through positive customer engagement where required and work pro-actively to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Develop, sanction and deliver the least cost, optimal, efficient and safe solution in line with CDM Regulations and SHESQ considerations.
- Produce all required project documentation, ensuring governance is maintained throughout the investment.
- Develop, implement, and manage project delivery, design, safety by design, commissioning, scheme closure and post-completion requirements.
- Support the consenting, lands negotiations, type registration, cost estimation, programme risk mitigation and innovation activities to enable the delivery vehicle to implement the solution on site.
- Assess the need for Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) or Front End Engineering Design (FEED) support and where required, appoint and lead the ECI/FEED contractor in their activities. Monitor and control the budget and resolve any contractual issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor and control the investment throughout the process providing regular project monthly status reports (including SHE performance, milestone progress, risk management) and accurate and timely financial forecasting information to support regulatory reporting, and business and capital planning.
- Support the contract strategy and tendering process of projects entering delivery, to provide expertise following the production of competent Site and Works Information.
- Manage and co-ordinate Contractors and project teams to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and specification and with minimal disruption.
- Monitor Contractor site activities to ensure compliance with National Grid SHES standards, Health & Safety, Environmental legislation, and CDM regulations.
- Manage the Contractor commissioning and performance testing process on site. Ensure the provision of accurate ‘as built’ documentation to handover of the assets onto the system to the standards defined in the design.
- Manage standard and routine third-party issues, land, consents, grantors, public relations and Community stakeholder relationships to preserve National Grid reputation.
- For customer schemes, supporting CAMs with the provision of information required to ensure customer offers are made in a timely manner to comply with the SO/TO Code requirements.
- Maintain full authorisation to carry out duties. Enact the role of Client’s Delegated Representative and where appropriate, Principal Designer or arrange for the provision of Principal Designer for each project as required under CDM Regulations.
- Act as the NEC Project Manager (or equivalent for other contract types). Enact the role of Commissioning Panel Chair and work towards next level of authorisation where applicable and where experience allows.
- Mentor and train other Assistant / Project managers within the team.
- Undertake additional duties to support team / region as delegated by the Senior Project Manager.
- Undertake Delegation of Authority for Senior Project Managers as and when required.
What You’ll Get
A competitive salary between £61,000 -£72,000 – dependent on capability. This role also attracts a £4,500 market supplement which is pro-rated into monthly payments throughout the year. As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You’ll also be eligible for a Company Car should you meet the Job Requirement criteria.
