Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Project Manager with excellent technical knowledge and experience to join our London‑based team. The role will drive, challenge and successfully deliver complex strategic and operational projects using best practice PPM knowledge and advisory skills. You will primarily manage major building projects for private sector technology clients (data centres) while also working across our wider portfolio of projects for public clients in scientific research laboratories, higher education, healthcare and commercial property. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of our project and programme management commissions throughout the project lifecycle for major clients within these sectors.
As a senior member of the team, you will manage key client relationships, understand their requirements and identify new work opportunities with current and new clients. You will ensure alignment between the client and all relevant contractors and sub‑contractors, manage budget, scope, change control and timelines for delivery, and lead a team to deliver commissions to a high standard of quality and client satisfaction.
Is this role right for you?
Construction stage support of projects will require a variety of skills to ensure a successful project delivery. Commercial input is a differentiator in our service offering, so the candidate should identify efficiencies and value for the client. You will have a background in administering contracts with clients, partners and suppliers, with experience of the project inception stage focused on procurement. You will have an established background in design management from the inception and construction phases, with professional project management experience, either having had a significant role in a large £100m+ capital project or having acted as Lead Project Manager on projects of £15m+.
- A degree in a relevant subject and a chartered professional qualification in a relevant profession (e.g., APM’s MAPM, ChPP).
- Management of complex high‑risk projects and programmes, including delivery of data‑centre projects, and experience leading project teams.
- Contribution towards business development plans and achievement of targets set for the team you lead.
- Ability to assess real‑world project scenarios in line with your experience and plan a course of action that delivers the required project outcomes.
- Proven capability to easily “tune into” the client organisations we work with, aligning with their values and character while bringing new expertise and thinking.
