Salary: £47,500‑£55,000 subject to experience (up to £62,000 with commission and bonus)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends

Overview

First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with an events management business to hire a Senior Technical Manager on a permanent basis due to growth. The role requires strong leadership to manage technical personnel and build enduring relationships with the venue’s in‑house events team. Success lies in ensuring smooth delivery of large, complex events, managing and overseeing Technical Managers across distinct delivery areas, and contributing to the professional development, technical proficiency and safety compliance of the team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage and oversee technical, scenic and LED installations, including rigging, for live events, ensuring safe implementation and removal
  • Advises Account Managers and Technical Managers on complex technical elements of live events
  • Produce technical schematics, cable calls and floor plans
  • Engage in client and project development processes, assisting with pitching for new business alongside account managers
  • Calculate and plan crew and logistics with the Operations Department, including technical and local crew and vehicles
  • Liaise with Technical department members to develop training programmes
  • Produce health and safety documentation
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest AV technologies, rigging, power and safety procedures

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous extensive experience as a live event AV technician and subsequent technical/project manager, within an event AV company, venue, or as a freelancer
  • End‑to‑end technical project management experience in live events
  • Good understanding of event power, cable runs and health & safety requirements
  • CAD skills (deciphering and creating) in Vectorworks or equivalent CAD program
  • Ability to calculate lens throws, lighting angles, weight loads, speaker dispersion, power draws, sight lines, floor load restrictions, etc.
  • Problem‑solving skills under pressure, with strong troubleshooting ability
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Professional and courteous manner, radiating calmness and confidence under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
