With a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming work, this established structural steelwork contractor is looking for an experienced Estimating Manager to lead the estimating function, manage tender submissions and work closely with senior management to secure profitable new business.
You’ll take ownership of the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission, collaborating with commercial, technical and operational teams to ensure bids are accurate, competitive and commercially sound.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and manage the estimating function across multiple structural steelwork tenders
- Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates
- Produce detailed material take‑offs, labour calculations and subcontract enquiries
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities and commercial considerations
- Prepare comprehensive tender submissions within client deadlines
- Liaise with clients, consultants and internal teams throughout the tender process
- Support the handover of successful projects to the commercial and delivery teams
- Mentor and develop estimating team members where required
What they’re looking for
Must have:
- Previous estimating experience within the structural steelwork industry
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
- Experience pricing structural steelwork packages from drawings and specifications
- Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and prioritise workloads effectively
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Nice to have:
- Previous experience leading or managing an estimating team
- Knowledge of British Standards and Eurocodes
- Experience using estimating software and Excel for cost modelling
