Your Role
Join Stockport Family and help transform lives. We’re on a determined journey of continuous improvement to create a dynamic and supportive environment where children, young people, and families thrive.
We have an opportunity to join our Children in Care Service, a team that works specifically with children and young people in our care. You will be responsible for a caseload of children in our care and will also work on a team duty rota, as and when needed.
We want you to have the right conditions to do your best work and you’ll receive expert guidance, innovative resources, and a nurturing team. Our model of restorative and systemic practice ensures you’re always learning, growing, and supported every step of the way.
About You
Our children and families deserve social workers who are hard‑working, passionate about making a difference, and want children to reach their full potential. You’ll also be a team player, able to share your knowledge with others and continue to learn.
You will build strong relationships and use creative, systemic skills to identify children’s and young people’s needs, ensuring their voices are central. By recognising needs and risks, you will develop effective plans that create lasting change.
We know this is a tough job and it’s a big ask. To support you, we provide an excellent package of benefits and tailored support if needed. We also use tools so you can focus on doing social work rather than being stuck at your desk.
We know you’ll bring skills and knowledge; we also support you to flourish and develop your career.
About Us
Stockport Family brings together education, health, and social care services to provide holistic support for complex families.
Our model of restorative practice means relationships are central to everything we do—not only with families but with colleagues. We care about our language and are ambitious for the families we serve.
We have experienced leaders, a dedicated social work workforce development team providing reflective and clinical supervision, and innovative support services such as Family Drug and Alcohol Court and New Beginnings.
Our commitment to our staff
- Direct access to a team leader and two senior practitioners on each team, overseeing six social workers.
- A strong workforce development programme introducing restorative practice and other training including SEND needs.
- For ASYE’s we have a supportive programme with a year‑long series of practice development sessions.
- We encourage continual CPD and allow protected time for you to do this; all social workers are offered a yearly professional development review (My Conversation).
- We provide a solid induction into social work for new starters, with a gradual increase in caseload and complexity.
- We offer monthly high‑quality reflective supervision, and all team leaders are trained in reflective and systemic supervision. ASYE’s have a reflective mentor. There are also group and reflective supervision delivered by advanced practitioners.
- Integrated services provide expert advice from IROs, the Aspire service for domestic abuse and complex safeguarding, and a disability and short‑breaks team.
- We offer a full corporate induction across the council, with senior leadership maintaining relationships with new starters to ensure they settle in well.
What we can offer you
As well as the benefits listed, we also offer:
- Modern and pleasant offices, refurbished end of 2022, with the latest technology to support hybrid working, located in the town centre.
- Reimbursement of Social Work England regulator fees.
- Full subscription to Research in Practice.
- Discounted multi‑storey parking on‑site.
- Essential Car User Allowance of up to £963 per annum.
- Annual ‘Ambitious Stockport’ Awards recognising colleagues who live our values every day.
