Overview
Within the Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt Directorate (CFCD) we work to reduce fraud, error and debt across the benefits system. As a Fraud Officer you will be at the forefront of tackling fraud, conducting thorough interviews and reviews, pursuing all reasonable lines of enquiry and taking corrective action on benefit awards where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct robust interviews with individuals by phone or in person, gather, review and scrutinise detailed evidence.
- Taking corrective action when errors are found and ensuring compliance with DWP policies, CFCD operational procedures and quality standards.
- Collaborate with teams and external partners to promote fraud awareness within DWP and engage effectively with business partners.
- Manage cases effectively, gathering and verifying information to support accurate benefit reassessments and over‑payment calculations.
- Handle sensitive information, maintain accurate records, redact sensitive material and liaise with other departments.
- Prioritise workload and navigate shifting priorities efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Adherence to professional standards – membership of the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP) at Practitioner level is required and must be maintained.
- A level 3 qualification (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake a work‑based qualification.
- Strong communication, organisational and decision‑making skills, ability to work independently and within a team.
- Experience handling sensitive situations and interacting with challenging or vulnerable individuals.
- Willingness to travel on business as required.

- Salary from £37,016 a year.
