Environmental Protection Officer – Overview
Appointed on a permanent basis to focus on all areas of Environmental Protection work with special emphasis on complex planning consultations, acoustics and/or animal welfare licensing.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to complex planning consultations including acoustics and animal welfare licensing.
- Carry out enforcement interventions and manage multiple cases in a busy reactive service environment.
- Build and maintain relationships with council teams and external organisations.
- Use a range of computer packages and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, communities, and businesses.
- Work outside office hours when required and travel to sites as needed using your own vehicle with business insurance.
- Maintain a professional, diplomatic, and solutions‑oriented approach during challenging situations.
Qualifications
- Education to A level or equivalent.
- ONC BTech in a relevant environmental health course or equivalent.
- Experience with enforcement interventions and working on several cases concurrently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Full, valid driving licence and own vehicle with business insurance.
- Willingness to work outside office hours.
- Support available for recently qualified officers to complete the pathway to become a fully qualified EHP.
