Project Manager – Sizewell C – Ipswich, Suffolk
We are looking for a Project Manager to be part of an ambitious project that will deliver clean energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. This role will be based in Ipswich, Suffolk, and will involve leading projects for the 3.2 Gigawatt nuclear power station at Sizewell C.
What you’ll be doing
As Project Manager you will lead projects through launch, preparation, delivery and close‑out phases, taking ownership of safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery from initial review through to successful handover.
You will work closely with clients, internal teams, subcontractors and suppliers to plan, coordinate and manage works, ensuring projects are delivered in line with contractual requirements, programme expectations, commercial targets and Balfour Beatty standards.
In this role, you will
- Review project proposals, contracts, specifications and drawings to understand scope, requirements, risks, timelines, resources and budget expectations.
- Support bid and contract finalisation activity by contributing to project methodology, programme, resource planning, materials, labour and cost assumptions.
- Develop clear preparation plans with stakeholders, including support functions, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, third parties and operational teams.
- Lead the preparation of tender packages for subcontractors and suppliers, setting out scope, technical requirements and evaluation criteria.
- Work with engineering, works management and supervision teams to optimiser design, methodology, site set‑up, equipment selection, workforce planning and resource allocation.
- Lead health, safety, environmental and quality performance on site, promoting proactive engagement, identifying risks, implementing mitigation measures and supporting incident investigation and close‑out.
- Monitor construction progress against programme, specification, internal procedures and client requirements, ensuring inspection and test plans are in place and non‑conformances are reported and managed.
- Manage project constraints, changes and contractual requirements, working with commercial teams to assess impact, communicate with the client and support recovery plans where needed.
- Oversee subcontractor performance across health and safety, environment, quality, progress, cost, change management and feedback.
- Provide weekly and monthly reporting on key project performance indicators, including safety, environment, quality, production, programme and financial performance.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and colleagues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead project handover, close‑out, final account support, lessons learned activity and knowledge sharing to drive continuous improvement.

- Drive and lead performance excellence in safety, quality, environmental, technical, operations and financial areas.
- Ability to identify improvement opportunities to increase profitability from project activities and to drive improvement initiatives and strategy in coordination with the DOM.
- Technical and engineering knowledge and experience of geotechnical techniques and related civil structures.
- Excellent people management skills and a proven record of success in managing and developing construction teams.
- Team player and approachable to all, whatever their level of responsibility.
- Good links within the industry and with potential clients.
- Active role with the business targeting to lower the carbon intensity of our operations.
- Continual improvement focus, always seeking to improve the efficiency and profitability of the business.
The following qualities/experience are desirable
- Experience working for a piling, ground engineering or civils subcontractor.
- Civil Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
- A relevant professional qualification, such as APMP, and a relevant technical qualification.
- EngTech, IEng or CEng qualification.
- SMSTS/SSSTS.
