Role Summary

As a volunteer, you will help families feel understood and supported as they navigate the challenges of living with IBD. Your insight and lived experience can make a real difference to a family’s hospital experience and help ensure that no one feels alone on their journey.

Responsibilities

  • Help families feel understood and supported as they navigate the challenges of living with IBD.
  • Communicate in an approachable, empathetic, and confident manner with children, young people, and families from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Listen without judgement, respect confidentiality, and recognise when support from clinical staff is needed.
  • Support patient and family engagement events, service improvement projects, and research activities throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Approachable, empathetic, and confident communicating with children, young people, and families.
  • Have lived with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or have a family member who has lived with IBD.
  • Ability to listen without judgement, respect confidentiality, and recognise when clinical support is required.
  • Willingness to be part of a multidisciplinary team and to accept full training, support, and supervision.
