Overview
An exciting opportunity for a qualified Orthopaedic Technician in the Trauma and Orthopaedics service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive casting, splinting, bracing and orthotic service across fracture clinics, orthopaedic clinics, wards, theatres, A&E and paediatric services.
- Apply routine and complex casts, including Ponseti casting and Total Contact Casting.
- Perform basic wound‑care procedures and removal of K‑wires, clips and sutures.
- Assess patient needs, plan and prioritise workload, provide clinical advice and education to patients, families and carers.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, therapy and orthotic teams to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.
- Act as a role model, support colleagues and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Orthopaedic Technician with relevant registration or certification.
- Experience in orthopaedic casting, splinting, bracing and (preferably) Ponseti and Total Contact Casting techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support patients experiencing anxiety, pain or distress.
