Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and skilled Occupational Therapist to join the Integrated Acute Medicine Therapy Team on the Acute Medicine wards. Specialties include respiratory, oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and haematology. The team provides a 7‑day service and bank holiday cover on a rota basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide autonomous assessment, treatment, and discharge planning for inpatients with complex conditions.
  • Manage a caseload of chronic, disabling and life‑limiting illnesses, prioritising and delegating cases as needed.
  • Carry out assessment and prescriptive services for equipment and adaptations.
  • Collaborate with physiotherapy, nursing, medics, the discharge team and other multidisciplinary members.
  • Educate staff, multi‑agency professionals, and occupational therapy students about acute medicine and complex OT needs.
  • Act as a source of expertise, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills.
  • Assist the Clinical Lead OT with planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the OT service.
  • Support clinical and leadership development through supervision and peer‑support forums.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) and HCPC registration.
  • Member of the College of Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience working in an acute medical setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior OT staff.

  • Flexibility to work part‑time (22.5 hours/week) with weekend rota and compressed or self‑rostering options.
