Product Development Technologist

Location: Wrexham

Full Time | 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Are you an experienced scientist with a strong background in coatings, polymers, or materials development? Our client is seeking a motivated Product Development Technologist to lead and deliver new product development projects within a fast-paced industrial environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will play a key role in managing and executing new product development projects. Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and execute new product development projects from laboratory concept through to pilot and production-scale trials.

• Conduct hands-on laboratory work including materials formulation, coating trials, and performance testing.

• Develop coatings for technically demanding applications.

• Coordinate and deliver product development trials in both pilot and manufacturing environments.

• Work closely with commercial teams and customers to understand product requirements and application needs.

• Collaborate with procurement teams and suppliers to source and evaluate new materials.

• Support scale-up activities and define processing requirements with process development teams.

• Produce manufacturing specifications and develop appropriate test methods.

• Analyse trial data and communicate results, progress, and recommended next steps to senior management.

• Ensure product development activities comply with quality systems, health & safety, and environmental regulations.

What You’ll Bring

Essential

• Educated to degree level in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related discipline.

• Proven industrial experience in the formulation and development of coatings.

• Hands-on experience conducting laboratory, pilot, and manufacturing trials.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse and interpret experimental data.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.

Desirable

• Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001.
